She's worked for several of the most prestigious media outlets worldwide. The time she worked at The Washington Post was spent covering numerous Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis, football and basketball. Nichols began her career at ESPN in 2004 and worked for 9 years at the network, earning the network two Emmy Awards. She also was a guest on some of the most popular programs on ESPN such as SportsCenter and NFL Countdown. She was also part of the network's Monday Night Football broadcasts as an on-line reporter. Her next move was CNN followed by Turner Sports. Unguarded with Rachel Nichols was the first show she produced and hosted. It aired on CNN International as well as CNN. More than 1 billion people watched it worldwide. Nichols reported on NBA shows on TNT as well as the playoffs, regular season and All-Star broadcasts. Her duties on behalf of TBS also included golf and baseball coverage, and Final Four broadcasts by CBS. This is only the second nomination in the 42 years that have preceded the award for a female among more than 200 nominated candidates.
